Love is a weird thing.

A mix of wonder, amazement, surprise, fear, depths, heights, certainty, uncertainty, marvel and so much more. It’s not uncommon to keep having these conversations about love and what it means or how it feels for each and everyone of us at different times.

These days, when the light seems lower and days are shorter on one half of the world, I recall my experience while working with the elderly. Days full of past, of memories, good ones and bad ones. Days which all seem the same, over and over again. These days where so many people seem to dim down their light until they’re completely gone.

Makes me wonder what it really means to love and to be loved. The real feeling behind it all. Not like the money-making machine of love that we live in but the real deep feeling that moves it all, that ties it all, that unites it all. The feeling where and when it all simply makes sense.

Why is it that December and Christmas season is a time packed with so many memories more than others? Why is it that some of us love it so much while others don’t?

I’ve been thinking that this season is truly one of love. Let’s put gifts aside and it truly becomes a time marked with love, unity and sharing in ways we don’t do as much all year round. This season then becomes a strong reminder of either love or pain, depending on where we are in life, or on how stuck some may be in the bitter past.

But back to love: what is love?

Is it the butterflies in the stomach? The deep long term feeling of certainty and happiness that remains no matter how tough it’s also been? Is it them both? So many kinds of love. Love for your parents, your partner, your kids, your siblings, your friends, your grandparents, your carers, your teachers, your guides.

No wonder it’s so difficult to define love when there are so many kinds. Yet they might all have one thing in common: they all make us feel good about ourselves. They all make us feel loved and accepted.

Real love then is this feeling where we are in a space free of judgement, full of acceptance, trust and caring. Real love does these things, right? Real love is unconditional, they say, which is also tricky to define that about conditions…because, who puts conditions in the first place? Humans of course. That’s why we’re here. To learn how to unlearn the conditioning of our humanness. So that we can learn (or remember) how to love for real, deeply, blindly, respectfully, without conditions, with joy and ease.

What a weird, funny thing love is. For some reason love is present in every single culture, song, struggle, movie, novel and more. Quite likely because love is the one thing we are all in deep search for. All that people talk about, suffer from, enjoy the most is always related to love. The best and worst things in this life as we know it are always tied up to love.

Love must be then our main and only mission since we are born. To love and be loved. A lifetime of searching for it, only to realise that inside us it’s where it has always been in the first place. How silly are we to forget? Yet we all run the same race. How come we all forget?

I’m revisiting this love topic these days a lot and finding so many interesting thoughts in the depths of my inner hallways. I’ll be sharing more but for now the final line is indeed this: love is always inside, we are love, everyone is love, no one is not loved. We just forget and complicate things on the way of searching but it truly is simple in the end.

If only we talked more and expressed more. This is when fear becomes the enemy of our lives, standing on the way of love.

More on this next time…

But for now, let’s just think a bit on this all. Oh, love!
