Yes! Just like you just read. I found an interesting article a few days ago explaining this and I felt extremely curious. So my research began in order to find out more on this topic.

As part of my Grandma’s Remedies section, I intend to research and share all those wonderful home remedies from old times. Effective ones that seem to be forgotten in memory lane as modern times has given us pharmaceutical products, easy to buy and apply, filled with tested drugs and more. To me, the same but in its healthier version is the Grandma’s Remedies project right here.

What if we are travelling around a deserted medical-less area in Asia and we suddenly hurt ourselves, making a bleeding wound. Big or small, we must stop the bleeding at any point. What if there are no bandaids, no alcohol or proper bandages to wrap up?

What if there’s just nature around us? Well, this little fact right here is great and can always come handy. Some extra knowledge won’t do any harm for sure.

Of course, make sure you are not allergic to this kind of pepper or if in doubt, better avoid using this remedy.

How does cayenne pepper stops the bleeding?

Lifehacker explains: «Cayenne pepper equalizes the blood pressure and allows cuts—even deep cuts—to clot quickly so you can keep all your blood inside your body, where it belongs.»

Digging deeper into this magical spice, it has been studied widely finding amazing and varied uses within the human body.

How do you apply it?

Right on the skin, mixed with water or as a balm to apply topically, and even a drinkable mix.

If on the skin, a small quantity can be sprinkled right on the wound, and its effect should be seen after a minute or two to the most.

If there’s a larger bleeding, you can dissolve it in a bit of water and apply with a gauze onto the wound as well.

You can make a balm out of cayenne pepper powder when mixing it with a small measure of olive oil, Wintergreen oil, pure distilled mint crystals and beeswax. Also to be applied topically if necessary.

And finally, you can even drink it to stop a nosebleed for example. A teaspoon of cayenne pepper in a glass of water drunk down will help the clotting process right away.


I haven’t tested this myself but my research tells me that this is legit. Definitely a good and handy tip to keep in mind. Travelling is a road full of wonder and surprises, and some times, medical surprises can be managed in a better way if having a little bit of knowledge.
